The end of 2011 is rapidly approaching and it’s time to wish all of my readers a Happy New Year. It’s really just another night in an endless succession of nights as the earth spins one revolution on its axis every 24 hours as it continues on its endless journey of circling around our sun. But it seems to be a time when most folks pause to recall some of the events that have influenced their lives in the past year and based upon their experience, they try to chart a different course for the New Year or at least vow to avoid some of the unpleasant things that have happened to them along the way.
But trying to look into the future is about as productive as trying to stare into a deep dark hole or to look into the dark shadows along the waters edge. The New Year will not reveal itself all at once – only one day at a time.
Some people will try to go in one direction. Others will go in the opposite direction. But the truth is that we have little control over what is going to happen to us next year. If I could make one wish for the New Year, it would be to approach the New Year with as little anxiety as possible and to make the best of what ever comes my way. And with that wish, I will cross over the time bridge to 2012 on Saturday night and hopefully join up with all of you when we reach the other side. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you also.
Our best,
Tina and Dan Martin
Tina and Dan,
We made it to the 2012 side. I guess that I really never had any doubts. We are already three weeks into the new year and I have celebrated another birthday. I plan to keep on celebrating birthdays for as long as the good Lord grants me another one!
