Last weekend Jeanette and I traveled to Venetia, Pa. to personally wish Susan (Jeanette’s daughter) a happy birthday. Our travels on Saturday took us west to Erie, Pa. along the NY Thruway and then south on route 79 into Pennsylvania – almost to the West Virginia line. For those of you who contemplate traveling west on the Thruway, there’s lots of construction on both the west and the east bound lanes from Buffalo to Erie. Winter has not been kind to the roads here in Upstate, NY.
We arrived a little early on Saturday afternoon and what do you know – the sun broke through the clouds after all of the mist, drizzle, and rain that we had been driving in all day. Susan and Jeff’s home is fit for a magazine cover and they have a beautiful pink dogwood and a white dogwood in full bloom in front of the house.
The rhododendrons along the house are just beginning to bloom. Since Venetia is about 300 miles south of Canandaigua, spring comes a lot earlier. There are onions, Swiss chard, peas, and potatoes in the garden, and some morning glories that are making their way to the top of last year’s Christmas tree trunk. I’m jealous as I can’t even work my garden soil because it’s so wet!
Happy Birthday Susan; thanks for inviting us and may you have many more!
