Happy Valentine’s Day! We are enjoying spring like temperatures in the Finger Lakes today as our highs are projected to be 45 degrees. Jeanette and I took advantage of yesterday afternoon’s 42 degree temperatures and went to the Wilhelmus Estate Winery (click here) for some of Karen’s lovely hand dipped chocolate strawberries and a sample of Wilhelmus Estate Wineries’ red wines. The Wilhelmus Estate Winery is one of the few Finger Lakes wineries that are open on Saturday and Sunday in the winter months. We met some lovely folks from Buffalo, Syracuse, and from Rochester who were celebrating Valentine’s Day while the roads were still dry and the warm temperatures lasted. Later we went to Schooners Restaurant in Canandaigua for a nice bowl of Manhattan clam chowder and a salad to complete our celebration of Valentine’s Day.
You don’t have to feel too bad that all of our snow will melt with the high temperatures. Canandaigua Lake across from Deep Run is completely frozen over – a sight that we haven’t seen since we moved here in 1999. Our neighbor Dave has taken a break from all of the snow plowing that he does – both for Lakeview Nurseries and also for the Bero Construction Company. Dave has been really busy this year and I am sure that the extra rest on Sunday was most welcome.
So while the sun is shinning and things are beginning to look a little like spring is coming, take advantage of the Valentine’s Day thaw for yourself and your Valentine!
