Wilhelmus Winery Declares January as Wine and Soup Month

January Icicles on Canandaigua Lake

Hardly anything is more satisfying to me on a cold winter’s day than a nice bowl of hot soup, a hard roll with lots of butter, and a glass of your favorite Finger Lakes red wine. My favorite soup is a hearty beef vegetable soup that I make in the crock pot. It’s a recipe that I have finely tuned here in the Finger Lakes and one that makes use of the potatoes, carrots, and onions that I raise in my Finger Lakes organic garden.

I’ve convinced Boud and Karen Kuenen of Wilhelmus Estate Winery (click here) to have a soup and wine paring event in January. The Wilhelmus Estate winery offers some excellent red wines (Cabernet Franc, Corot Noir, Chambourcin, and Noiret) and I am excited to have been invited to bring along some of my hearty beef vegetable soup for the event on the 22nd and the 23rd of January. More on the event will be forthcoming as the details are still being worked out.

Red wine and hearty beef vegetable soup. What a wonderful food combination for January. Boud has his wood burner all fired up so regardless of the weather, you’re sure to be warm on your insides and your outsides!
