Day Tripping in the Finger Lakes

About a week ago we traveled with the Centerfield Homemakers Travel Club to Aurora, NY. Aurora is located on the east side of Cayuga Lake, one of the five largest Finger Lakes.

Entrance to Mackenzie-Childs Pottery Shop, Aurora

Our travels led us to Mackenzie-Childs (click here), a thriving pottery shop where all kinds of pottery are hand-made and hand-decorated for sales around the world. Their signature pieces are decorated with a black and white basket weave type of pattern. The grounds and gardens are beautiful to see as well as are all of the pottery pieces which are for sale. It is refreshing to find a small business that is doing well and has actually hired 40 people this year.

Our next stop was just down the road from MacKenzie-Childs at the Aurora Inn (click here). This old Inn was the perfect place to stop over for lunch and rest up a bit. The back yard of the Inn is adjacent to Cayuga Lake and offers some spectacular views of the Lake.

The last stop on our trip was to Auburn and the Merry-go-Round Playhouse (click here) where we attended the very entertaining play “Church Basement Ladies 2.” The play was truly fun and well done by the professional actors at the play house. Thanks Donna for picking this one!

The Merry-go-Round Playhouse sits right on the northern edge of Owasco Lake which is yet another one of the Finger Lakes. Day tripping in the Finger Lakes is a lot of fun!
